Independent level: the first level which does not include any prompt

Intermediate levels: sequence of prompts going from the least to the most level of support needed to support the toddler to complete the skill

Controlling prompt level: the prompt level that assures that the toddler will perform the target skill correctly

The response interval can be determined by using one of the following methods:

Determine the length of time it takes a toddler to complete a similar skill.
Determine the length of time it takes the toddler to responds when he/she knows how to do the skill and add a couple of seconds.
Determine the length of time it takes a toddler with ASD to complete a similar skill.
Determine the length of time the toddler is allowed to begin and complete an activity or routine. Typically a response interval is 3 to 5 seconds.
